Challenge for the project Minas Conga
Santa Cruz said that this does not attempt to “counterbalance the authority and regulators,” but instead “seek a meeting, a commonality of interests”, since “the company is more interested in that there is no risk. We understand the concern of the regional president. We always believe that some uncertainty exists any mining project. “
Santa Cruz said the source of the confusion lies in the recommendation made in the environmental study, which was asked to perform an additional study to be used as a basis for monitoring of water in the production stage of the mine to be held on year 2014.
However, he said that the mining and accepted this recommendation and is conducting a supplementary study should be completed in March 2012. “We will meet and indeed, we think this is appropriate,” he said. He said that the trouble comes from the expectations of some communities that are not part of the zone of influence. “Obviously they want to be part of the benefit, but even we clarify that the investment made.”
Santa Cruz added that unlike the south, in Cajamarca is a positive water balance. That is, there is more rain than evaporation, so the 1.3 million cubic meters of water used Minas Conga not generate greater impact.”
Despite this stated that “these bodies of water” will be replaced by water reservoirs which together will add 3.2 million cubic meters. That is more than twice as well as these bring an additional benefit: to be regulating water use in watersheds. “In that sense, not only have more water but we can use all year round,” he said.
BENEFITS TO GENERATE THE CONGA PROJECT
In addition to bringing more water to the region, Santa Cruz Conga explained that should produce around 300 million dollars in taxes and generate about 8 000 jobs and increased economic activity in the area.
